Our team at Apista Events are passionate about making the outdoors accessible for everyone. So we've come up with a special event the day before the Awa Adventure Run that gives tamariki and rangatahi the opportunity to have a go at trail running. This event is open to students in years 7 - 13 and best of all will be free to enter!
When: Friday 27 September 2024 (registration from 8:30am, start time 10am).
Where: That Place MTB Park, end of Kaiwhaiki Road, Whanganui (about 20mins drive from town)
Who is it for? School students who are in years 7 – 13 are encouraged to give it a go.
How far is it? The event is aimed at being a challenging yet achievable trail running or walking event that supports mental health and wellbeing through exercise. Inclusivity is at the heart of what we offer, so there are three course distances to choose from:
The Awa Adventure Run is scheduled during Mental Health Awareness Week and aligns with ‘Be Active’, one of the ‘Five Ways to Wellness' pillars. Being physically active is proven to boost our wellbeing and decrease stress, depression and anxiety.
Do what you can – whāia te mea ka taea e koe, enjoy what you do – kia pārekareka tāu i whai ai, move your mood – kia pai ake ō piropiro.
Cost: We don’t want cost to be a barrier to getting tamariki and rangatahi active in the outdoors and are working to attract sponsors and funding that makes this event free for kids to participate in. In order to help achieve this, it'd be great if each school with participating students could provide 1 or 2 volunteers to help out on the day.
How to Enter: All entries are being collated by participating schools. Your school sports coordinator should have the necessary information and registration form.
Further information will be emailed to interested schools, including an entry spreadsheet for you to record the details and distance choice of each participant. Please get in touch if your school doesn't already have this information.
Entries will be open until Friday, 13 September (we may extend this depending on numbers of entries).
Schools in the Whanganui region and surrounding districts who would like to get their students involved are invited to get in touch with us to learn more.
